Football was just beginning to take off as a game, as colleges agreed on the rules. Jesse James & gang achieved their 1st train robbery. SanFransisco installed their first cable car. PT Barnum started a circus. The 1st kindergarten was established in public school in St. Louis. Financial panic in New York, beginning of a long depression. Meanwhile, across the atlantic, the cities of Buda & Pest consolidated into Budapest, and formed the capital of independent Hungary. ...And here in central Indiana, a group of farmers in Madison County decided to build a church building. Meeting in homes and school houses, Jonas Whetstone agreed that they could build it in the corner of whetstone cemetery, at the corner of what would become known as Brown Street Road and Whetstone Road, 4 miles south of Anderson. Anderson was already county seat, but only a few thousand people resided there. In 1915 they began work on a white bungalo-style church, and a few years later added a basement. In the 1930’s they added electricity! The area was growing from the gas boom, new factories moving in.
